X-MEN
In the late nineties, the kings of the roost were the Ecstasy dealers—the guys who were flush with cash, who drove $140,000 automobiles, accessorized with the finest women, and always picked up the tab. And according to the U.S. government, there were no bigger Ecstasy dealers anywhere, at any time, than Louis Ziskin, Tamer Ibrahim, his brother John (later shot in the head after early release), Eyal “Al” Maimon, and a handful of associates, many of them of Israeli or Middle Eastern heritage, who imported Ecstasy from Amsterdam, resulting in the biggest Ecstasy bust in U.S. history in July 2000 (over one thousand pounds). This was part of “Operation Red Tide,” an undercover multinational task force that revealed that Sammy “the Bull” Gravano, the former Gambino family underboss and enforcer, in conjunction with local Aryan gangs, had cornered the Phoenix Ecstasy market after leaving the Witness Protection Program, which he entered after serving as the government’s chief witness against John Gotti (for whom he performed a reported nineteen contract hits). But Sammy the Bull was just a marquee name consigned to mid-level billing, running twenty-five thousand pills a week. These guys were bringing in two million doses at a time. After turning himself in and weathering two indictments and one trial, Ziskin was sentenced to thirty years. After fighting his way through two appeals and representing himself on the second indictment, he ended up with fifteen years.
Louis Ziskin was also Kristen Williams’s boyfriend, and it was during his tenure at Taft Federal Prison in Kern County that he met Will Wright and provided an unwitting entrée for Will into Hollywood. Louis was well liked in the L.A. club scene, and when Will walked into the ongoing party with Kristen on his arm, it didn’t sit well with a lot of people—even before Will started sizing up the nightclub world with a predatory zeal. Darnell relates the tale as he heard it:
“Louis wasn’t even convicted yet, and Kristen had already moved on to this new character, Will. The problem was, Will wasn’t Louis. Louis used to have a million in cash in his apartment. He had Kristen driving around in bulletproof BMWs. He had office space in the ICM building [the International Creative Management agency headquarters on Wilshire Boulevard], so he had a legal front to him. Kristen was the hot young model-actress with the rich boyfriend. Louis is a good guy. Everyone loved him. And just like me, the pricks turned on him once the Feds came. Even the girl. Kristen caught a little hell with people around town, but people quickly forgot when they got word of the next party. The creep Will’s time was coming up.
“I had a couple of connects with the boys in the Feds, so I paid Louis Ziskin a visit while he was at MDC [Metropolitan Detention Center] in downtown Los Angeles to see what he knew about Will. I checked Will out with Louis and he tells me the whole story of how Will got to Kristen.
